Aquaponics Farm

Dear Mrs. Billionaire:

I hope this email finds you well. I am reaching out to follow up with you about the conversation that we had at J. B. Pritzker’s Charity Gala. It was so lovely to meet someone so like-minded on the subject of urban farming, and I really appreciate your interest on the matter.

The project would essentially consist of renovating a vacant property (at least an acre of space) to create a large-scale Aquaponics Farm serving food deserts on the South and West sides of Chicago. We hope to grow 200,000 pounds of produce annually, and to partner with local infrastructure to distribute said produce equitably. We would use Tilapia fish for the fertilization component of the Farm. They reach harvestable size in eight months and would provide a good source of protein to their eventual consumers. We plan to consult both  Nutritionists and Biologists before finalizing our crop decisions, but hope to focus on plants that are the most expensive and inaccessible, usually because they are farmed far away and transported here at cost. Doing so will ensure that our farm has the maximum possible positive effect on the environment, in addition to providing food to our city.

Our most imminent fiscal hurdles have to do with locating and preparing a proper space. We hope to begin planning the equipment, farming and employment shortly after construction begins.

If this still sounds like a project that you would be interested in, and if you have availability in the next month or so, I would love to meet with you to discuss the specifics. I also do not want to presume to know how involved you might want to be in the project, but given your admitted and apparent interest in such ventures, I feel it is not too far-fetched to say I might be able to offer you a seat on the board in the future if you feel sufficiently invested and interested!

Thank you for your time,

Sincerely,

Annabelle Tuma
